Description

Detached house in Villariezo, in the Alfoz de Burgos region, located 8 km from the city of Burgos.

The A-6 motorway (Autovía del Norte) passes through its municipal area. To the northwest and southwest lies Arcos de la Llana, to the north Villagonzalo Pedernales, to the northwest Burgos, to the south Arcos de la Llana and Sarracín, and to the southeast Sarracín.

Entering the detached house, the first thing we find are the stairs leading to the covered terrace (a later addition) which provides access to the house.

On the ground floor, we find a spacious entrance hall where, at a glance, we can see the rest of the house. To the left of the hall is the large, fully equipped kitchen, ideal for everyday use without making a mess in the rest of the house. Continuing on, we find the spacious living room with two distinct areas, a fireplace, and access to an outdoor terrace. We continue on and find the bedroom, located on the ground floor. Next to it is the full bathroom with a bathtub and window. Beside the bathroom are the stairs leading downstairs, and next to those are the stairs leading to the upper floor, which is designated for relaxation.

On the first floor, we find three bedrooms, one with built-in wardrobes, and a bathroom with a window and bathtub. There is also a small storage room that could be converted into a dressing room.

Below, we find a picnic area with a barbecue, accessible from the street, a toilet, the room housing the heating system’s water tank, and access to the garage. Surrounding the house is a beautiful garden with automatic irrigation and a lovely stone fountain.

As for cultural heritage, notable monuments include the bridge over the Ausín River and the church, which features a striking bell tower and numerous wrought iron objects by Félix and Manuel Saiz. Other points of interest include the Church of San Pedro Cátedra, the Plaza Mayor, the town hall, and the Parque de la Tinaja (Tinaja Park).

Regarding gastronomy, the town stood out between 2005 and 2010 for achieving Guinness World Records for the longest black pudding, largest cheese, largest potato omelet, chocolate church replica, and candy cruise ship.

In terms of sports, the town boasts the largest Bolo Burgalés (Burgos bowling) club in the province, with the exception of the Plantío Bowling Club, with over 50 registered members. Villariezo FC plays in Category 1 of the Provincial Council Trophy and has participated since 1998.

In addition, Villariezo has a medical clinic with doctor’s appointments on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, and a nurse’s office on Fridays. The town also offers bus service from Monday to Saturday, a telecenter from Tuesday to Friday, a municipal sports center, a municipal bowling alley, and playgrounds. It has several associations, including the “EL CRUCERO” association for retirees and pensioners, the “LAS VIÑAS BLANCAS” socio-cultural association, and the “PADRES DE VILLARIEZO” (Parents of Villariezo) association. and the cultural association “EL CAMINO DE VILLARIEZO”

South of the city of Burgos lies the town of Villariezo, its houses nestled in the hollow carved by the Ausines River. The town stretches across the gentle hill upon which stands its parish church, possibly the fourth building constructed there. The last one dates from 1797-1800 and was the work of Pedro and Juan de Hernaltes, stonemasons by trade. Within this church, the tower and remains of the earlier 16th-century structure, the work of Juan de Escarza, a stonemason, can still be seen. Inside the church is the main altarpiece, made in 1712 by Miguel del Barrio. However, this altarpiece is not exactly as it appears today.

The town is likely named after the colonizing leader Iriezo.

People from Asturias and Cantabria, as well as the Basque-Navarrese region, realizing that much land to the south was unoccupied, whether authorized by their lords or not, came down with their carts and animals to to populate the south.

Within the Villariezo district, we find places like Villatruedo, Villerolo, Villaolda, and Villocles, which undoubtedly refer to founding figures (Todredo or Teodoredo, Auriolo, Oriolo, Oriol Olda, Odila, Ovéquez).

Villadruedo was the most important place, as it had “almost as many houses as Villariezo.” There was a monastery there that was soon attached to the monastery of San Pedro Cardeña. Currently, not a single stone of the settlement remains. Around 1960, two sarcophagi were unearthed there, each containing a burial. Nothing remains of it today. It is known that three bishops came from this monastery of Villatruedo. There is also some documentation about Villerolo, though not in the Gothic Cartulary of San Pedro Cardeña.

In the Middle Ages, the owners of this land were primarily the Cathedral Chapter of Burgos and San Pedro de Cardeña. The Cathedral Chapter considered itself “Lord of Villariezo” and in the early 1500s granted the town its “Ordinances.” All positions and public works had to be approved by the Cathedral Chapter. In 1540, Don Gómez de Quintanadueñas was “Lord of Villariezo,” and in 1659, Don Diego de Riaño y Gamboa became the first Count of Villariezo.
